Logan Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Nic Martin as the Associations new Basketball & Performance Manager strengthening our commitment to player and coach development through sustainable pathways.

Martin brings over a decade of full time experience in high performance development, with an extensive background across national, professional and pathway environments in Australia.

Currently serving as High Performance Manager at Basketball Tasmania, Martin has led statewide athlete and coach development systems, aligning programs from grassroots through to elite pathways while driving significant performance outcomes at the national level.

His experience includes:

  • Involvement with Basketball Australia’s National Team Programs
  • Coaching roles with the Australian U17 Sapphires, including Gold medals at the Asia Cup (2023) and Oceania (2022) and a Top 5 finish at the 2024 World Cup
  • Experience with the Australian Boomers as an Advanced Scout
  • Over 5 years in the NBL environment
  • Coaching across 14 Australian National Championships, with additional mentorship across 20+ campaigns

Martin has also demonstrated success at the state level, contributing to Cairns Basketball’s Vince Hickey Trophy wins (2016 & 2017) and developing athletes who have progressed to national teams, professional environments and collegiate pathways.

At Basketball Tasmania, he has been instrumental in modernising performance systems, implementing data-informed selection processes, enhancing coach development frameworks and strengthening holistic athlete support through education, wellbeing and performance services.

Logan Basketball General Manager Mitch Young said Martin’s appointment reflects the associations’s continued investment in building a nationally recognised pathway and basketball program.

“Nic brings a rare combination at this level of national team experience, professional exposure and proven system leadership. His ability to build strong programs while developing both players and coaches makes him an outstanding addition to the Thunder Family. I’m excited for Nic to contribute to the next phase of game development at Logan Basketball leading our performance and pathways.”

Martin said he is excited to return to Queensland and contribute to Logan Basketball’s future.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to join the Thunder family. It feels like a great fit for both me and my family. Logan Basketball has built a strong, successful environment, but what stands out even more is their commitment to development and doing things the right way. I’m grateful for the chance to be part of it and look forward to helping elevate the program to be one of the best not just in Queensland, but across Australia.”

Martin will commence with Logan Basketball in late May.
