After seven years as General Manager of Logan Basketball Incorporated, Mitch Young will be departing the organisation.
Mitch joined LBI in 2019 and has led the association through a period of record growth, on court success, and lasting change for the Thunder Family community.
President Nicole Kirisome said –
“It is with mixed emotions that we announce the resignation of our General Manager Mitch Young. For the past seven years, Mitch has been the driving force behind Logan Thunder Basketball’s success. His passion, leadership and unwavering commitment have transformed our association and built a legacy that will continue for many years to come.
What makes Mitch’s journey even more special is that he is one of our own. From a Logan junior player who reached the highest level of our sport, to returning home to lead the association he loves, Mitch has always embodied what it means to be part of the Logan Thunder family. Under his leadership, Logan Basketball has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of Queensland’s leading basketball associations.
These achievements are a reflection of Mitch’s vision, dedication and tireless work. He has not only led our association to new heights but has also built a strong foundation that positions Logan Thunder for an exciting and successful future.
While we are incredibly sad to see Mitch move on, we are equally grateful for everything he has given to Logan Thunder. Thank you for your leadership, your belief in our people, your unwavering support, and your constant dedication to our basketball community and our Logan community.

- 50%+ membership growth since 2019 through targeted participation programs, including All Abilities, Walking Basketball and new affiliated junior clubs
- Over $1 million in facility and infrastructure improvements made at the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre
- NBL1 North Women’s Championships (2021 and 2025)
- 14 x Logan Thunder junior state championships
- 2025 U14 Logan Thunder boys national champions
- Basketball Queensland Association of the Year 2024 and 2025
- Highest BQ Governance Health Check score across all affiliated Associations 2025 and 2026
- City of Logan Sports Organisation of the Year 2021, 2023 and 2024
- Basketball Queensland Administrator of the Year 2023
A former NBL athlete who played six seasons and 163 games across Brisbane Bullets, Cairns Taipans and Townsville Crocs, Mitch brought a rare dual perspective to the GM role understanding the game from both the court and the boardroom.
Mitch’s own journey is a Logan Basketball story. He started out as a junior player in our own programs before earning a scholarship to the AIS/COE, representing Australia, playing college basketball at Saint Mary’s and then professionally in the NBL. He returned home to play QBL before stepping into the GM role at LBI. His path is a living example of what Logan Basketball has always stood for, that opportunities created here can take our people all the way to the top of the game, whether as players, coaches, administrators, or officials.
Under his leadership LBI has grown into one of Queensland’s premier basketball Associations built in no small part on the same values and belief in pathways that shaped his own career.
Mitch leaves LBI stronger, more sustainable, and better positioned than when he found it. On behalf of the management committee, staff, members, and the wider Logan basketball community, thank you Mitch for seven outstanding years.
